LeoLabs, ClearSpace sign MOU

LeoLabs, a Space Situational Awareness (SSA) and a Space Traffic Management (STM) company, and ClearSpace, a Swiss-based satellite servicing company, announced that they had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The MOU shows that these two companies share a common vision and goals on the sustainability of low Earth orbit and space.

“As the traffic in low Earth orbit grows, innovative, scalable solutions are needed, including active debris removal technologies and in-orbit servicing,” said LeoLabs CEO Dan Ceperley. “ClearSpace is an industry leader in both, and we’re proud to kick off partnering with them to build a safer, more sustainable
future in space.”

The two companies come to the partnership with a slew of accomplishments. LeoLabs has received a contract help develop a STM prototype for the US Department of Commerce and has steadily been building up a global network of SSA ground stations. ClearSpace has received a contract from the UK Space Agency to demonstrate its orbital debris cleanup technology. The MOU is a reflection of these successes and the path both companies want to take going forward into the future.

This shared future even includes sharing leadership with the exchange of advisory board positions. LeoLabs is sending Dr. Darren McKnight to sit on the ClearSpace advisory board. Dr. Timothy Maclay of ClearSpace will become a member of LeoLabs’ Commercial Strategic Advisory Board.

“With the acceleration of commercial space activity, the industry is developing approaches to create a more circular space ecosystem,” said ClearSpace CEO and Co-founder Luc Piguet. “LeoLabs is providing data and services that are critical to operational safety, and we are excited to be working with them to
address comprehensively the complex challenges of space safety and sustainability.”
